Mammillaria spinosissima, commonly known as the 'Red Headed Irishman' due to the spines at the top of the plant becoming a rust colour. A cylindrical cactus with a dark green stem hidden by masses of spines. It blooms in spring with a ring of deep pink flowers around the top of the stem.
As with all cacti, M. spinosissima likes a very bright position, with some relief from afternoon sun. Plant in a very well drained cactus mix and water only when dry.
