  • The Monkey's Tail Cactus (Cleistocactus winteri subs. colademono) is an attractive epilithic species, that grows hanging from steep rock faces in its native Bolivia.

Formerly Hildewintera colademononis, this cactus has trailing bright green-yellow stems with long, soft hair-like spines. These spines start off yellowish and turn whiter as the stem grows, resembling a tail. It is the hairy stems that give the plant the name Monkey Tail Cactus. It flowers freely, producing large, bright red blooms in summer.

Plant in a very well draining mix, such as a commercial cactus mix, or mix a generous amount of grit and/or perlite with some organic compost. It likes a position in full sun, with some protection in the afternoon. Water when almost dry in the warmer months and reduce watering in winter.
